LVP is the most popular floor in Effingham County for good reason. It's waterproof, stands up to dogs, kids and sandy shoes, feels warmer than tile over a concrete slab, and today's planks look so much like real wood that most guests can't tell the difference. But LVP is only as good as the install underneath it.

The most common LVP failures we get called to fix — gaps opening between planks, a hollow "clicking" sound, planks lifting or peaking in doorways — almost always trace back to a floor that wasn't flat, a missing expansion gap, or planks pinned down under cabinets or heavy trim. We prevent those problems by doing the prep right before the first plank goes down.

Whether you're replacing old carpet in a Rincon subdivision home, updating a Guyton family house, or flipping a rental in Springfield, we'll help you pick the right product and install it so it lasts.

Every LVP install includes

  • Accurate in-home measure & product guidance
  • Slab or wood subfloor moisture check
  • Flatness check — grinding high spots, filling low spots
  • Undercut door jambs & casings
  • Proper expansion gaps around walls and fixed objects
  • Matching transitions, reducers & stair nosing
  • Quarter-round or baseboard reinstall
  • Cleanup and debris haul-off
Installation Methods

Click-Lock vs. Glue-Down LVP

Click-Lock (Floating) LVP

Planks lock together edge-to-edge and "float" over the subfloor without glue. Rigid-core SPC and WPC planks are the most common. Floating floors install faster, hide small subfloor imperfections, and are the go-to choice for most living areas, bedrooms and whole-home projects.

Best for: most homes, open floor plans, remodels, fast turnarounds.

Glue-Down LVP

Thinner, flexible planks are glued directly to the subfloor. Glue-down is very stable, handles heavy rolling loads and large sunny rooms well, and sits low — helpful where floor height is tight next to existing tile or doors.

Best for: commercial spaces, rentals with heavy traffic, low-clearance areas, very large rooms.

Subfloor Prep

Why Prep Is the Most Important Part of an LVP Install

Most homes in Effingham County sit on concrete slabs, and many older homes in Guyton and Springfield have wood subfloors over crawlspaces. Each needs a different kind of prep:

Concrete slabs

We check for moisture coming up through the slab and use a vapor barrier when the product calls for one. We also check flatness with a long straightedge — rigid-core LVP generally needs the floor flat within about 3/16" over 10 feet. High spots get ground down, and dips get filled with patch or self-leveler.

Wood subfloors & crawlspaces

We look for soft spots, squeaks, loose panels and moisture from the crawlspace. Loose areas get screwed down and damaged sections get replaced before installing, so your new floor doesn't bounce or creak.

Over existing floors

LVP can sometimes go over flat, well-bonded tile or sheet vinyl. If it's loose, cracked or too uneven, we remove it. We'll show you what we find and explain the best option at your estimate.

Cost Factors

What Affects the Cost of LVP Installation?

Every home is different, so we price from an in-person measurement — never a guess over the phone. Here's what moves the number:

  • Square footage and how many rooms, closets and angles are involved.
  • Floating vs. glue-down installation.
  • Removal of old carpet, vinyl, laminate or tile (tile removal takes the most labor).
  • Subfloor prep — grinding, patching or self-leveling.
  • Stairs, which are priced per step.
  • Trim — new quarter-round, baseboards or reinstalling existing trim.
  • Furniture and appliance moving.

You'll get all of it in writing before work begins. Call (912) 361-3446 to schedule.

Choosing a good LVP product

We install customer-supplied flooring and can recommend products. A few tips:

  • Wear layer: 12 mil is good for most homes; 20 mil for heavy traffic, big dogs and rentals.
  • Rigid core (SPC): best stability over slabs and through temperature swings.
  • Attached pad: quieter and more comfortable underfoot.
  • Buy 7–10% extra for cuts and future repairs.

FAQ

LVP Installation FAQs

How much does LVP installation cost in Effingham County, GA?

Installation pricing is based on square footage, whether the LVP floats (click-lock) or is glued down, how much old flooring has to be removed, subfloor leveling, stairs, and trim. Labor for a straightforward click-lock install is usually priced per square foot, with removal, leveling and stairs added as line items. We give you a free, itemized written quote after measuring — call (912) 361-3446.

Can LVP be installed directly over a concrete slab?

Yes — and most homes in Effingham County are on slabs. We check the slab for moisture and flatness first. Most click-lock LVP needs the floor flat within about 3/16 inch over 10 feet, so we grind high spots and fill low spots before installing. Many products include an attached pad; some need a separate vapor barrier.

Can you install LVP over existing tile or vinyl?

Often, yes. LVP can usually go over well-bonded, flat ceramic tile or sheet vinyl if grout lines are filled and floor height works with your doors and appliances. If the old floor is loose, cracked or uneven, we remove it first. We'll tell you which option is right at the estimate.

Is LVP really waterproof?

Most quality LVP planks are 100% waterproof, so spills, wet paws and mopping won't hurt the planks. Standing water can still get under the edges if it sits, so proper installation, sealed perimeters in wet areas and quick cleanup still matter.

How long does LVP installation take?

A bedroom or two is usually one day. An open main living area of 800–1,500 sq ft typically takes 2–4 days including removal and prep. Glue-down and heavily leveled floors take a bit longer.

Should LVP go in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes. Waterproof LVP is one of the best choices for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. We cut carefully around toilets, cabinets and tubs and finish edges cleanly.

Do I need to move my furniture?

Please clear small items, electronics and anything fragile. We can help move standard furniture — just let us know at the estimate so we plan for it.

What's the difference between LVP, LVT and SPC?

LVP is luxury vinyl shaped like wood planks; LVT is the same material shaped like tile. SPC (stone-plastic composite) and WPC are rigid-core types of LVP. Rigid-core planks hide small subfloor flaws better and are the most popular choice for floating installs.

How long will LVP last?

With good installation and normal care, quality LVP commonly lasts 15–25 years. Thicker wear layers (12–20 mil) hold up best in busy homes and rentals.
